“Adrian Bouchet plays extremely self-assured Tony without any irony or caricature, which makes it funnier than if he had tried to play it for laughs. Catherine Kinsella gives a superb performance as the childish, smitten Bev, with good support from Richard Oldham as Dave. Oldham Coliseum Theatre is delighted to announce that they have been given the opportunity to start the 3 year project, The Growing Stage after receiving £204,629 from the Big Lottery Young People’s Fund. This will radically change the way in which the Coliseum will operate, supporting the ideas and creative direction of the young people in Oldham.
The Growing Stage will focus on ensuring that young people influence the development of the opportunities available to them at the theatre. This influence will be taken right up to board level and used to expand the ever-growing possibilities young people have within the creative environment.
This new project will consist of four areas of youth led theatre development;
Theatre Peer Training Schemewill develop skills, with the aim of improving employability.
TheatreLAB will give young people the chance to work in an intercultural theatre group leading to a main theatre annual production.
DigiLAB will give young people the chance to develop creative skills when working with new technology.
Theatre Pathways will develop mentoring opportunities with more experienced members of the theatre.
The Big Lottery Fund distributes half of the National Lottery good cause funding across the UK. The Fund is committed to bringing real improvements to communities and the lives of people most in need.
Executive Director Liz Wilson comments: “We are extremely pleased with our success in getting the grant. We want young people involved in the theatre’s development and this will bring about a big organisational change for the Coliseum. The Coliseum will continue to entertain our loyal audiences but we now have the opportunity to represent something different for young people.”
