A Passionate Woman: 18 May - 4 Jun 2011
When the past becomes the present
Betty is a seemingly typical housewife and doting mother. Today her beloved son is getting married – a day of joy for many proud parents, but Betty is far from happy. Locking herself in the attic Betty takes a look back on her life, lamenting her lost youth and reminiscing about past loves and the passionate affair she had with her Polish neighbour Craze.
Wondering where all the years have gone, what the man she married has become, why her son is about to marry a woman she dislikes and how to say ‘How did I get here?’ in Polish, Betty refuses to come down for the wedding.
Hot on the heels of the 2010 BBC adaptation, A Passionate Woman is a poignant yet funny play which will resonate with anyone who has ever loved and lost. The play’s author, Kay Mellor OBE, writer of such TV hits as Fat Friends, Playing the Field and Band of Gold plays the title role alongside Stuart Manning (Hollyoaks) and Anthony Lewis (Emmerdale).
