Alfie comes to Oldham

(30 / 3 / 12)

Oldham Coliseum Theatre are taking a trip back to the Swinging Sixties this April with their co-production of Bill Naughton’s Alfie starring Vicky Binns who played Molly Dobbs in Coronation Street.

It’s 1960s and no one is embracing the spirit of free love more than Alfie Elkins. He’s the working class Don Juan of the East End – the man about town with the world at his feet and a new bird every Saturday night. But all good things must come to an end and when his no strings- attached life starts to come apart at the seams, it’s time for him to wonder ‘what’s it all about?’

Alfie was made world famous by Michael Caine in one of the most iconic films of the 1960s. With five Oscar nominations, it was recently voted as one of Total Film Magazine’s top 50 greatest British films of all time.

This production will star David Ricardo-Pearce in the title role and also feature actress Vicky Binns, best known for her portrayal of Molly Dobbs in Coronation Street.

Vicky, who left Coronation Street in December 2010 after playing strong-willed Molly Dobbs for more than four years, plays both nurse Carla and Annie, the naïve and vulnerable young girl who falls for Alfie.

She said: “It is really interesting, exciting and engaging as a play but it goes very dark, much darker than I ever realised - I think as an audience it really takes you on a journey.”
