Cinderella takes over £20,000 a year ahead of opening night

(28 / 11 / 11)

Oldham Coliseum Theatre’s annual traditional pantomime opened on Saturday to packed houses. Tickets for next year’s panto also went on sale on the same day with customers queuing outside ready for the box office to open at 10:00am. Cinderella – which doesn’t open until November 2012 – took over £20,000 on Saturday.

Queuing costumers made sure they got their favourite seats booked even though they didn’t know what pantomime they were booking for until they got to the counter. If you can’t wait until next year, Dick Whittington is now up and running and ready to entertain so make sure you get your tickets before it sells out.

The Coliseum is famed all over the North West for its traditional pantomimes producing and commissioning a brand new production every year attracting audiences of over 35,000. Sleeping Beauty (2010/11) won the prestigious Manchester Evening News Theatre Award for Best Family Show.

All the essential elements for a great panto are there – time honoured traditions like the slosh scene; the transformation and the inevitable wedding and walk-down – plus all the favourite characters: Principal Boy; evil villain and, of course, the Dame. Add a collection of songs both current and classic and you know you’re in for a fantastic evening of pure entertainment.

Tickets for Dick Whittington can be booked by calling the box office on 0161 624 2829 or click here.
