Dumb Show Opens on 12 June

(14 / 5 / 12)

Joe Penhall’s superb dark comedy Dumb Show comes to the Grange Arts Centre in Oldham this June.

Dumb Show is a grubby black-comic satire about the latest celebrity sting, tapping right into the current question of press morality. A famous down and out TV star turns to two private bankers who come knocking on his dressing room door with a proposition complete with a healthy pay cheque. This quick fix turns out to have one big catch; a hidden camera.

Premiering in 2004, the play is more relevant now than ever before. Writer Joe Penhall comments:
“I think now the play is vindicated because we can see precisely how spiteful, sneaky, hypocritical, devious and dangerous tabloids can be.” Penhall – writer of Blue/Orange –adapted Ian McEwan’s Enduring Love and Cormac McCarthy’s The Road for the big screen.

This production stars Steve Huison who appeared in the 1997 critically acclaimed British film The Full Monty as Lomper. Most recently Steve played lovable layabout Eddie Windass in Coronation Street until 2011.

Steve is no stranger to the Coliseum; he played Phil in the 2005 production of Brassed Off and also appeared in Can’t Pay, Won’t Pay in 2008. He will be starring alongside Kate Coogan who most recently appeared at the Coliseum in Stepping Out (2011) and Leigh Symonds who played Doctor Watson in the Coliseum tour of The Hound of the Baskervilles (2012).

Make sure you come along and get every last juicy detail from one of Britain’s best known personalities. Dumb Show is about to share with you a very private story.

Dumb Show opens at the Grange Arts Centre from 12 – 30 June 2012.
