Khushi: The Coliseum's annual festival showcasing work made by Oldham's South Asian communities, in partnership with the Women’s CHAI Project.
Thank you to everyone who came to Khushi Festival this year, where almost 2,500 visitors were welcomed to our events. We had a wonderful day at Oldham Library, a day packed with performances, workshops, games, music, and happiness! And we honoured our late friend, colleague and collaborator, Sam Malik at Khushi Music Night, with performances from singers, rappers and musicians. Our surveys of audiences showed that 100% of those questioned rated the events as good or excellent.
Khushi Day at Oldham Library (3 August 2024)
We commissioned three artists to work with five community groups across Oldham to co-create brand new work for 2024.
Poet Nasima Bee worked with Werneth Chai, who produced a beautiful book of poetry that was handed out to attendees. Actor and facilitator, Perveen Hussain, worked with West Oldham Chai and The Indian Association creating two wonderful performances. And Maryam Hussain, a folk art and craft visual artist, worked with Yuvanis Foundation and a group from Greenhill Community Sports and Recreation Club to create mosaics which were exhibited in the library space.
I was really impressed with the Khushi festival as a whole, as well as the type of talent and art it showcased. Having a whole festival dedicated to South Asian Arts and culture was an amazing thing to witness.
Maryam, Commissioned Artist
