ACCESSIBILITY

Our Welcome Team is here to make sure you have a great time!

Oldham Coliseum Theatre is committed to being welcoming, inclusive and accessible to as many people as possible.

As a producing organisation working across multiple venues, we recognise that accessibility looks different in different spaces, and that no single approach works for everyone. We believe access is an ongoing conversation, shaped by listening, learning and responding to the people we serve.

We understand accessibility as more than physical access alone. It includes sensory, emotional, financial, cultural and social considerations, and recognises that not all disabilities or access needs are visible.

Our approach is guided by the belief that people are experts in their own access needs, and that meaningful inclusion is built through partnership, trust and responsiveness.

Working across different venues

Because we work across a range of spaces, access provision may vary from venue to venue. We commit to being transparent about this and to helping audiences make informed choices about attending.

Where a venue can’t fully meet an access need, we will do our best to explore alternatives, adjustments or additional support, and we will always aim to communicate openly and early.

BSL-interpreted, captioned, audio-described and relaxed performances

These are marked on the relevant show pages.

We make the following measurable commitments:

We will provide clear, venue-specific access information for all events on our website and booking platforms, including details about step-free access, seating options, toilets, lighting, sound levels and arrival points, wherever this information is available.

We will offer at least one access-supported performance or engagement opportunity within each season, informed by audience need and feedback. This may include relaxed performances, captioning, BSL interpretation, audio description or other access measures where feasible.

We will ensure that access requirements are considered at the earliest stages of programming and planning, rather than treated as an add-on. We will work with venue partners to improve access wherever possible and clearly communicate any limitations in advance.

We will ensure staff, freelancers and volunteers working with audiences are briefed on access arrangements and on respectful, inclusive ways of supporting audience members.

We will regularly review ticket pricing, concessions and supported ticket schemes to reduce financial barriers to attendance.

We actively welcome feedback, suggestions and conversations about access

If something works well, we want to know. If something doesn’t, we want to learn from it. We see this feedback as essential to improving how we work and to ensuring our programme remains relevant and welcoming to the communities we serve.

You can contact us in advance of booking or after attending an event to discuss access needs, suggest improvements or share your experience.

The box office number is open from Tuesday to Thursdays 12pm to 2pm and the number to ring is 0161 624 1731. Alternatively email info@coliseum.org.uk.

Our Commitment:

Accessibility is not a fixed destination. It is a process of continual learning, reflection and improvement.

We are committed to developing our access practice over time, working in partnership with audiences, artists, venues and communities to create cultural experiences that are inclusive, relevant and responsive.
